Paint chipping on my IPhone 12 (Blue)

Hi, i purchased my IPhone 12 about 5 months back, i started noticing paint chipping off near my camera lens and it bothered me alot cause its a costly phone and this shouldn't happen. At first it was just a dot now it's worse and i don't know how or who to contact to get this fixed. We pay a hefty huge amount for these phone's and this shouldn't happen! Apple should be ashamed of such low quality paint job.Does anyone else have this problem with their new IPhone?

iPhone 12, iOS 14

Same case for iphone 13. Bought mine a day after the local launch in the Philippines. Sadly after 8 weeks, paint of the wide angle camera frame starts to chip. Saddest part is I have the midnight one so chipping of paint is very noticeable. Note that I never dropped my phone. 😢

It really is UNACCEPTABLE APPLE!!! comparing my wife’s 11 pro which is a year older and is having NONE of the paint issues we’re seeing. It doesn’t look like the camera rings are painted on the 11 series like on the 12/13. I’m curious if anyone is having the same issues with battery health I’m having as well? Agin comparing to my wife who’s iPhone 11 Pro is a year older and is more of a heavy user then I am, booth of use the same style wireless charging stand has 95% battery health compared to my 87%

It is happening with me as well. I have been noticing it for a very long time, and I have been caucious from the very first time I noticed it. But this seems be poor quality paint, and the upper camera lens paint is also chipping off now. I really need this phone to be replaced, I talked to the service center for hours, and they adviced me to talk to the customer care, and they will help me with this, and the service person herself accept that this is the paint that is chipping off. I really need to be replace or I need my money back. I didn't know that this phone will turn out to be a big mess for me, I paid for a premium product, NOT with this kind of poor manufactural defect.

I am experiencing the same issue and am really upset with this. Paint near the camera lens is simply chipping off day be day and it looks worse. I bought blue color iphone 12 just 5 months back and now I regret for this purchase. After paying such a amount, we are getting such a cheap quality material. Its really very disappointing. I won't recommend anyone to but an iphone now.

I have also faced same issue in my apple 12 (black).

I have been using my apple for last 10 months and I noticed that within this 10 months my battery percentage dropped to 89% . I used my phone 4-5 hours in a day.

Not sure why the battery percentage is dropping so fast.

It was my first apple and I am very much disappointed.

Same thing happening with me. My phone is around 4 months old. I take very good care of my phone. It’s not a physical damage from my part.

I got it examined from the local authorised service centre as unfortunately in India there’s no way to get direct service from Apple. They refused to do anything saying that they do not have any way to confirm whether the damage has been done physically by me or if it’s a manufacturing defect. Also they said that Apple did not pass on any information or knowledge about this issue to them so they cannot do anything.

I have been an iPhone user for a decade now. This is the first time this is happening and it’s getting worse over time.

P.S. Funny how some people in these forums jump to conclusion based on their assumption that it’s the fault of the user.

The store manager gave me 3 options

1). Buy a case - I told him

the damage is done and the phone is defective, it will likely continue to chip. I should not have to buy a case - i have not dropped the phone and there is an issue with the design/paint. I showed him the issues many people are facing from a google search of “iPhone 12 paint chipping”

He said this is cosmetic damage and the phone works. I told him Apple specifically market their products as aesthetically pleasing and on their design - it’s not just a matter of having a phone that functions from a rectangular black plastic box. I would buy other brands if that is what I wanted. Pay a premium for apple. they know they should do better. I asked what if paint chips off the whole phone - does that mean it still “works”. He had nothing useful to say.

2). Buy a new phone for £300+VAT (after 3 months of my current phone!??) if I am unhappy. Also unhelpful.

3). Complain to the network operator - I told him apple make the product, not the network operator, and that this is apple’s responsibility. Also unhelpful.

Zero customer service - saying “I understand” and then presenting those 3 options is , hugely disappointing and arrogant conduct from apple.

Apple are in total denial about this manufacturing issue, brushing it off as cosmetic damage when the reality is that the phone cannot handle ordinary wear and tear - this is precisely what it should be designed to handle. And consequently this paint chipping falls out of their warranty cover and they won’t do anything about it - zero.

I’ve had a really unpleasant and unsatisfactory experience with apple about this - they are refusing to acknowledge that there is a problem when there clearly is one and brushing off customers like they are the ones at fault is appalling.

Apple might have noticed this issue by now but refuse to take any actions because if they started replacing phones with paint chipping it ll be difficult to identify which is from the defect and from normal wear and tear and people will obviously take advantage of it by replacing phones with paint chips which isn’t due to the defect causing a huge loss for the company. It sucks but there isn’t anything we can do about it.Only options are to cover up the areas(lens protectors) and ignore it or selling the phone and getting another one hoping it wont happen again. Also if are into DIY and crafty maybe try to repaint small areas like the camera lens with aluminium paints which matches the color and hope it works.
