Paint chipping on my IPhone 12 (Blue)

Hi, i purchased my IPhone 12 about 5 months back, i started noticing paint chipping off near my camera lens and it bothered me alot cause its a costly phone and this shouldn't happen. At first it was just a dot now it's worse and i don't know how or who to contact to get this fixed. We pay a hefty huge amount for these phone's and this shouldn't happen! Apple should be ashamed of such low quality paint job.Does anyone else have this problem with their new IPhone?

iPhone 12, iOS 14

Same case for iphone 13. Bought mine a day after the local launch in the Philippines. Sadly after 8 weeks, paint of the wide angle camera frame starts to chip. Saddest part is I have the midnight one so chipping of paint is very noticeable. Note that I never dropped my phone. 😢

If it's happening on the ring it ll surely on the sides. It started with the ring and I expected it to stop there and put on a lens protector from spigen to cover it. But then the sides started peeling. There is nothing we can do except cover it up.Or maybe sell it before the 13 is out because the 12 got a price drop of 100usd.If you can live with this and pretend not to care then fine.

Hi,

Same issue with my Iphone 11 within 3-4 months it started paint chipping at camera lens. Its really bad experience with apple as they are global leading brand giving this kind of quality product. Even i had visited to service center and multiple follow up with apple support. Only reply is its not covered under warranty ( cosmetic damage). However it seems this issue is in large number of phone which prove that this is manufacturing defect in paint section.

Request team keep posted if any solution on this

No one here can solve anything. You're NOT speaking with Apple. This is a user to user only forum. Your cameras, look like they've taken some abuse. But Apple doesn't warrant for cosmetic damage.

Feel free to schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show it to Apple, but you can be pretty assured, they'll tell you there is nothing they can do.

I am really ******, after paying this much amount for a mobile I didn’t expect it to overheat whilst just browsing safari and the paint to just chip off after only 2 months. Really disappointed and sad after paying such a price.

The battery percentage also went from 100 to 96 in just 4 months. And now you would say, you must have done something yourself. Prior to iPhone 12 I had and android device which just cost 19k rupees and after using it for 4 years, the paint on is intact, the battery is also fine. Really disappointed.

This issue happened to me where my first iPhone was iPhone 8 plus. Sold off after 1 year usage. Have been using Samsung, Huawei and XiaoMi, but paint chipping does not happen to any of my Android phones. So just sharing my experience here, I wont deny the iOS is better than Android. However, Apple is doing good at things which are internal but they are bad on external. If you are concern about the external, Android might suit you.

I am also having this issue with my year old iPhone 12 - the black paint is starting to come off the lens rim. The phone is always in a case with a raised edge, and has not been dropped. Fortunately the lenses themselves are free of any kind of scratches. I did not have these issues with my iPhone 8, 6, 5s or 4 previously. It really sucks given the fortune these things cost. I wonder if it will impact the exchange value when I upgrade to an iPhone 14 next year.

This is made on purpose do you keep buying the next model. It’s smart business.

it’s very easy to get a good paint on a phone and cheap too. I have a very cheap flashlight that cost me like 20 dollars and have dropped it several times on concrete due to my job, it’s still spotless. They could use the same paint on phones and would be way cheaper. But then you wouldn’t find a reason to upgrade phones so quickly.

Just learn from your mistake and never buy iPhone again. I’m using iPhone XS white as it’s not painted. And if you scratch you can just buff it with metal polish.

same with MacBooks. My dark grey MacBook paint was coming off on the bottom due to sustained heat. It was actually kinda melting the paint. So now I only buy metal colour MacBooks too.

Thank you for this advice. My iPhone 12 camera is facing the same problem. Based on this advise I went to one of the service centre here in KLCC, Kuala Lumpur and after doing the diagnostic, they said there is nothing wrong with the phone and they don’t cover any ‘cosmetic damage’. Only after I persistently insisted them to check why a barely 3 months old iphone have chipping of paint or whatever is covering the phone’s camera rim, they said ok, I can send in for the specialist technician to check further, which will take another 14 business days to resolve.

By the way, I have an iphone 11 which is still working fine and in stellar ‘cosmetic’ condition. It’s so frustrating to say the least, if the new iphone 12 is truly having an inferior cosmetic quality with its premium price tag.
