Air Tag not reachable

My air tag is paired with an iPhone 8plus. I am testing the play sound function and it often responds with “Air Tag Not Reachable, Move around to connect”. I may be 10 feet away. It doesn’t seem to provide much time to connect before Responding with the error message. I tried the routine resets, reboots.

Also the sound is is very low. If the locator is in a bag or buried in a couch, it’s barely audible.

Maybe this was designed to work with just iPhone 11 or 12 and the U1 chip?

if a brand new airtag nearby and all solution attempted even though airtag won't work (AirTag Unreachable) in that case should return the airtag due to hardware issue and bring a new one from the apple store.

I'm having the same problem. All I get is "Air tag not reachable. Move around to connect." Precision finding only works on iPhone 11 and 12, but "play sound" should work on an iPhone 8plus.

precision finding may be necessary for a useful air tag, the functionality without it is expensive amd not equal to current devices. And it’s large, it’s like adding a smart car key to your pocket. Plan on returning mine and using my previous device.
