iPadOS 14.5 Audio Skipping and Glitching

Hi! Just putting this out here.

Ever since I updated to the new iPadOS 14.5 and 14.5.1, I’ve been having some stupid audio issue that never occurred before. I constantly have to unplug the earbuds to fix the reoccurring issue. Basically if audio plays and the bug happens, the audio is fine, but would skip or glitch out. It’s still audible, just with annoying glitches and cuts. It can happen in any app.

This is not my earbuds but rather the update. My audio has been working PERFECTLY fine until yesterday, when I updated to iOS 14.5. Also, this is an iPad Air 4. I’ve tried everythinf (from restarting and many other things) and it’s still there. Hopefully Apple fixes this bug in a future update. I work on videos and things that use audio. The timing will be messed up because of the bug.

Anyone else who is experiencing this or any suggestions? I would appreciate it! Thanks :D

Hi - I am having the same exact issue. I have tried 2 Apple USB C to 3.5mm dongles and tried 3 different pairs of headphones (including one with an in-line mic). It seems multi-tasking with any apps that have audio/video triggers this audio skipping issue for me and then won't stop skipping until I unplug/reinsert headphones or restart the iPad. Once this issue starts, all apps are impacted (YouTube, Apple Music, Safari, etc).

I bought my iPad less then 1 week ago and the audio was fine the first few days and then the same audio issue started happening. Updated to 14.5.1 last night hoping it would fix the audio problem but still persists. I am under AppleCare and contacted Apple yesterday, they told me to go to Best Buy (where I purchased it) and meet with their Apple authorized technician. The technician could not figure it out either but said they were seeing other people with this issue. The technician did a Reset All Settings but as he suspected it's an OS issue, he couldn't do much else. I ended up exchanging the iPad for a new one and currently waiting for everything to re-download. I'll try and give you an update tomorrow.

Just wanted to contribute to the case as I am having the same problem. I have iPad Air 4 and I had audio and keyboard problems with bluetooth connection so as a solution I bought the USB-C Headphone Jack adapter. I had hoped that this will solve the connection issues I had with bluetooth. However now I am having the same problem as you guys are having, the audio works fine for a while and then it starts skipping every other second like its a scratched CD. I used different headphones with the same issue. This becomes very frustrating now as it seems its impossible to use my iPad as I was expecting. Apple needs to address these issues first before they work on spatial or lossless audio.

Wow, thanks for sharing. If that doesn't catch the attention of Apple I don't know what will. Having OS issues disrupt businesses and their customer's app experiences and purchases should be a huge red flag and incentive for Apple to resolve this asap.

I am in touch with an old friend who is a speech language pathologist and she said a few of her clients have switched to Microsoft surface devices as the audio Accessibility features have been completely compromised on their iPads for people who rely on the text to speech feature.

This iPad audio issue is unacceptable.

So it seems like Apple are determined to completely ignore this issue.

Does anyone have any ideas for how we can escalate this and pressure them into fixing it already? It’s legitimately unbelievable that I’ve been unable to work on my iPad for 2 months now because Apple will not do anything.

I’ve submitted several bug reports and spoken with multiple Apple representatives but nothing makes any difference.

Pulling my hair out over this. This isn’t some minor glitch that affects a small function, we’re talking about audio being fundamentally broken. Its absolutely shocking.

Right now, instead of the next song on the Music app, white noise at full volume start playing for 1 sec. Good job Apple.

If you can’t plug your headphones into any device, then when the Apple is starting to give free Airpods?? Or maybe pay for my hearing aid devices after few more white noise booms like that.

PS: If you call Apple support they **** you off. Perfect

Seems like we have 'Audio-Gate' for Apple.....

Apple, best way to clear this up is to begin acknowledging these discussions, and work toward a solution. Being secretive or at least not communicating at all, even through your Support org, is worse than other alternatives. The negative PR might not bother you, but it certainly can cause even the most loyal users to look elsewhere. I, for one, have already started in that direction.

Mate, this is a not great idea!

Imagine you have bought a brand new car, like Ford Mustang. Then you found out some features don't work. For example, the hand brake. Instead of telling the problem to the company, we will go to supplier and other shops telling the story and hopping the car company will be informed one day!!!

Mate, it is company's responsibility to respond to its clients' feedbacks and solve the problem.

By only discussing about this problem on a few forums probably won’t get Apple’s attention. It’s like when a small YouTuber has a problem, nobody takes notice of it, since there isn’t an audience. However with a big influencer, people/companies start to notice and take action.

I’m not sure if Apple actually seen this or not and take action, if any. They haven’t been working to a solution at all, from this standpoint. Even I have started to look elsewhere!

Many people rely on audio for their everyday lives, but that has been compromised. Apple should stop being so quiet!

I do music and usually I'll take my device and plug it into the venue's giant speaker system. These glitchy noises would not be acceptable in that environment. am I supposed to just say "I spent $800 or so on an iPad Air with 256 GB and cellular data but I'm OK with not using it for what I need it for the most?" This needs a resolution ASAP. Forget iPadOS 15 and adding new features. Get the basic features right first!
