iPhone 8 battery shot

Hello. So my battery on my iPhone 8 is no good. Won’t hold a charge. Turns on, gets to five percent and shuts off. Battery life last month was going from 90 to 30 but I was trying to avoid the mall and Apple w the pandemic but now it just is shot. I have an appointment to replace the battery tomorrow. It is on automatic back up for pics. Will I lose texts etc. My Verizon retailer told me I should not lose data replacing just the battery, and Apple says it as a precaution. Apple said this am when they called my gfs phone to confirm the appt I could lose data. I know I can just get a new phone. Problem is it won’t even turn on long enough to transfer pics and data to a new phone at Verizon. Their suggestion was to replace the battery so when I do want a new phone it will transfer. The Verizon rep said she’s never heard of someone losing their data just replacing the battery. A hard reset is not being done so it shouldn’t be a problem. I did read online thst obviously if the person doing it messes up and breaks the phone then obviously that’s a problem. So it’s a risk. Would I be able to plug my phone into my Mac or laptop and save it there at least. Wondering if anyone else replaced their battery and lost nothing. A shame though, the 8’s batteries have known issues.
