Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, empress52.

If we understand your post correctly, you're not able to use FaceTime on your iPad Pro but your Wi-Fi network is working normally. We’d like to help.

Checking your Wi-Fi network was a great place to start. We'd recommend following the other steps in this article:

If you can't make a FaceTime call on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Let us know if that resolves this issue for you.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

How did you contact Apple, exactly?

These are just Apple product user to user technical support communities.

No cognizant or responsible Apple teams or employees read nor participate in these user help communities.

You need to search online for your nearest, “local” Apple store location and call to make an appointment to have your Apple iPad diagnosed and options presented you.

Failing that,

You need to contact Apple support via the contact support link located at the upper right hand corner of every Webpage of these Apple support communities.

Use the Hardware Repair & Device connectivity support categories.

OR

by installing and using the Apple Support app found in the iOS App Store.

Tap the iOS App Store link below.

OR

Call contact Apple via the support numbers found in the link bekow.

Everyone here needs to send out a bunch of feedback and continue to do so on this issue until Apple finally gets the idea that there is something wrong with FaceTime and later iOS/iPadOS 14.5 and newer.

Cognizant Apple teams and employees DOES NOT monitor these user to user support communities.

Everyone here needs to send MULTIPLE feedback to Apple on this issue.

If everyone here is adamant and resolute and angry/annoyed enough about this continuing issue, then you all need to take whatever time is needed to send lots of feedback back to Apple.

This is THE ONLY REAL way to get the right Apple employees’ attention.

Tap the link below and start hammerin’ on this feedback page to get Apple's attention or this issue will continue to go unfixed and unrecognised.

Good Luck to All!

Hi guys,

I have the same issue with my iPad (any program with video or audio call is not working like facetime FB messenger MS Teams etc)

I had first the iPad 2020 and I did everything possible to solve the problem like:

  • I restored my iPad.
  • I changed the wifi
  • I replaced the iPad.
  • I replaced the iPad 2020 and get another one 2021 with an M1 processor.

Nothing helped me and my iPad is literally useless.

The apple support employee told me that they are working on it, but she cannot give me a deadline when this problem will be solved. The problem could be solved with the new software iPados 15 but they cannot promise.

So My advice is:

Go to the apple store or wherever you bought your iPad and return your iPad, get your money back and that is it.

They have to give you your money because they cannot solve the problem.

I did the same :)

For much newer, larger screen iPad models, without a Home button, try the new hard reset procedure for the new 2018/2020 iPad Pro and iPad Air 4 models.

1. Press and Release the Volume Up button.

2. Then immediately Press and Release the Volume Down button.

3. Then, Press and Hold the Power Button at the top. You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the Power Button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your 2018 iPad Pro will boot up completely to the iPad Pro’s Lock screen.

Best of Luck to You!

I’ve been having a problem with this on my iPad 8 as well. Shortly after updating to iOS 14, FaceTime began having issues. I can make calls, but they routinely fail. Zoom, Skype, and Google Duo have video, but no sound. I’ve tried restarting, deleting and re-downloading apps, erasing all content & settings, and resetting all settings. I’ve taken the iPad to my local Apple Store and talked to Apple Support numerous times, but the issues persist. I’ve requested a replacement model, but the Apple Support service manager assigned to my case has stopped responding. This is particularly frustrating because I use the new iPad primarily for work related purposes. I have a first generation iPad Air, running iOS 12.5.3 which doesn’t experience any of this. I can only conclude that there’s a bug in the update if it isn’t a hardware issue. New updates should be throughly tested before being offered to Apple users. I hope iOS 14.6 or even iOS 15 will fix these problems.

I have tried every suggestion listed here numerous times, all with the help of Apple specialists…furthermore, I received a new IPad Pro 12.9 2020 and the issue continued. Replaced the SIM card in the iPad and the issue still continues. Restored my iPhone, thinking somehow it might be the problem, but the problem persisted. I have even been sent a new phone and restored it and the problem is still present…

The only thing that seems to have any success in fixing this problem is to reset the network settings on both iPad and iPhone, but this is only temporary, as the FaceTime problem returns within the first few minutes to as long as an hour…

Now, having eliminated all hardware from being the issue by replacing suspect devices with new ones, they have determined that the issue must be a software glitch and my issue has been forwarded to the engineers for resolution…still waiting…

I too am having the same problem. iPad Pro 2020, updated to 14.5, FaceTime, video messenger all failed after update. 3weeks of apple support and update 14.6, still failing. Then iPad replaced, but still the problem.. hard reset works for one or two calls, then fails again. iPhone 12 max pro working with same updates, no issue. Really getting frustrated with this. Is it a software issue? Can’t be internet issue as phone works on same internet. Come on apple please sort this out.. glad I’m not the only one having this issue.

Hi, at least a small relief, to see others also are impacted by the problem. Since then my Ipad pro 2020 11 inch can no longer use facetime, as the calls drop regularly. No message is displayed regarding the reason, I am just thrown back to the facetime screen where I could re-initiate a new call. Ios 14.6 does not fix it. I also did a settings and content reset. No help.

I would also love to have this fixed. Otherwise this device is useless for me.

I spent 45 minutes in support chat with apple today, and they could not fix it. A senior engineer is supposed to call tomorrow. Clearly this is a software issue. I have tested my wifi everyway possible and tested other devices (phones) with facetime. Also, I am having the same issue that someone else mentioned where zoom will not get sound.

My mother in law's 8th gen iPad has been having the same problem for well over a month now, since upgrading to iOS 14.5. Upgraded to 14.6 and the problem persisted. I did everything that is recommended in various discussion groups plus what Apple support recommended when I spoke them, a recovery install. FaceTime worked 2 or 3 times after the recovery install then stopped again. I still believe that this is a software bug which is specific to the A12 chip, based on the devices that people are reporting the issue on. Please let us know how you make out with the senior engineer, I will be contacting Apple support again about the issue as well.

Yes, I have the same problem with my 11” M1 iPad Pro. I have tried all the recommended fixes to no avail. I also had the same issue with my old iPad. I think it started when I updated to 14.5 back in April.

Now, my FaceTime calls are regularly dropped without warning. I have also noticed that the call will almost invariably drop as I answer. It is extremely annoying. Interestingly, my iPhone does not suffer from the same issue; it works just fine.

Jul 6, 2021 1:16 PM in response to MichelPM

Thanks for that advice. I contacted Apple Support back in April regarding this issue. I have had no less than 10 specialists assigned to me and keep getting passed from one to the next. I’ve downloaded logs, page shots, updates and a myriad of other procedures and the ”engineers” have been on it for more than a month without a solution….so what else can I do? I’ll tell you all I can do…just sit and wait for the next call back asking for even more information, logs, page shots…etc. and grow ever more frustrated by their inability to solve an issue of their very own creation…
