Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I just had a very interesting error message playing a movie on Apple TV+. The screen was black and only the sound was on.
I am on Big Sur 11.3
When I try download and play the movie I get this message:
The selected movie won’t play on your display
This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection
What kind of Mac? Does it have an external display? If so, did you try disconnecting the cable on both ends, then re-connect?
Do you use a thunderbolt hub or similar hub, through which the video signal goes?
Do you have any screen sharing, screen capture, mirroring, etc. active?
Did you try without external peripherals connected (mouse and keyboard exempted)?
Does the issue persist after a reboot?
Does it happen for any commercially available content, or just this one title?
If none of the legit HDCP blockage reasons apply, then the error message itself may be in error. Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support
