Delete some iBooks

How can I delete books in my books app on MacBook Air that I no longer need? I searched google and followed instructions but it didn't work.

I have a mac book and cannot delete books I have previously downloaded. Most options in my app are greyed out. I have gone to finder to delete download files, as well as icloud, they don't reflect in ibooks app. I went to app store to update app there is no app. I see that "ibook author" is discontinued but nothing in regards to ibooks; which I see has been updated to "apple books" for iphone. So My question is; is ibooks no longer available? Should I delete the app from my macbook? What app should I use instead to read books on my Macbook pro?
