Apple TV 4th Gen keeps getting static and stuttering with some apps, especially Apple Fitness+, YouTube, and Twitch
I’ve got an Apple TV, 4th Generation, and with *some* apps it’s basically unwatchable: the screen freezes, static covers part or all of it (always in horizontal bars), there may be a flash of green, it’ll go black for a few seconds, there will be a small pop with the audio, and then resume. And it’ll happen again 1-5 seconds later. Sometimes, if I bear with it, it’ll stop after 5-10 minutes, but not always. I’ve read that this looks like HDMI issues.
BUT: the big video streaming options, no problem. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Plex, Apple TV+ content - no issues. Several years ago I DID have this problem with movies and TV shows purchased through the iTunes Store, but it stopped being a problem a while ago without me doing anything (I’ve always suspected a TVOS update). The stuttering / static sometimes happens on the Apple TV menus, but not often.
Apple Fitness+ is unwatchable (that’s what prompted me to ask about this: I like that service and want to use it!). Twitch is bad. YouTube will be fine for maybe 10 minutes and then get bad. The Apple TV screensavers can also get bad; Spotify and Photos are also bad.
I’ve tried swapping out HDMI cables, and using different ports on the TV. Unplugging everything and then plugging them back in sort of worked yesterday, and did not work at all today.
Is anyone else getting issues where *some* apps are a mess, but others are fine? Any ideas for how I can trouble-shoot this?
Thanks!
