Face I.D

I recently upgraded to an i-phone 12 and set up face I.D. Something has changed and it’s messing with my brain. Previously when my phone went into lock, I tapped the screen to wake it up and then face I.D recognition displayed on the screen and then auto took me to the Home Screen without me having to do anything. I’ve had it for 1week and for this last week I have tapped screen , the words face I.D would appear and then after looking at my screen it would take me to the homepage. This now doesn’t happen. I tap my screen to wake it up , face I.D unlocks the phone but no longer takes me to the Home Screen , I have to then swipe up. From people’s comments on the internet, seemingly this is correct, yet for the last week I swear face I.D took me direct to Home Screen. Please help me
