The iPhone icon appears in the sidebar, but the Finder window is BLANK. Where is the Finder window information for syncing, or backing up, the iPhone?

I can't synch my iPhone via finder. My iPhone appears in the sidebar until I click on it, then it disappears. If I restart the iMac the iPhone appears in the finder sidebar until I click on it when it disappears again. I can't synch my iPhone via finder. In Finder Preferences click on Sidebar and make sure all boxes are checked. After you find your phone uncheck the ones you don’t need or want.
