Mac OS asking for permission to compose, delete, read gmails etc!

Just updated to Catalina OS, all seemed ok until I tried to access my gmail account, before I am able to do this, the following screen appeared....MACos wants permission to ...

*read, compose, send permanently delete all your email from gmail.

*see, download and permanently delete your contacts

*see, edit, share and permanently delete all the calendars you can access using google calendar.

I contacted Apple support through chat....didnt get very far, when I asked if I was speaking to a real person, the chat ended. I have only ever contacted Apple support once before so I'm not sure if this is normal?

Does anyone know what this is all about? how can anyone agree to all these permissions, when the account is supposed to be private and only for me to use??

Am I being a bit thick here??? Am i interpreting the terms incorrectly, and do they mean "ME" when they talk about MACos??

As far as I can tell, wording aside, this is as innocuous as can be. You added an e-mail account, presumably so that you can use it with your e-mail client program. You know that it is you. You want to be able to, say, press Command-Shift-N and have Mail download your new messages; or delete a message and have Mail talk to the IMAP server and do what needs to be done to fulfill your commands.

All you are being asked is: are you sure you want this?

If you were NOT asked this, and Gmail would just let you start using Mail you would not have been concerned. So why are you if it merely asking “are you sure” before doing what YOU asked for?

I forgot to add: why you were not asked before? Security protocols change. It used to one needed only an account and password, but often now one is required more, for increased security. That is why we have 2-factor authentication. This is similar. I also had not been asked that question when creating accounts before, but now I am. Just like when replying here I sometimes have to type a security code sent to one my trusted devices.

Hi Luis

Thanks very much for the reply....I just don't like the way this is worded, if it is 'innocent' it doesn't seem very user friendly. I am still very reluctant to give my permission as I feel like it could compromise my account and privacy. I don't understand why on my other gmail accounts I don't have to do this, I was just able together into them as normal. Can you throw any light onto this....

thanks very much appreciated...
