I can't enter the verification code in 2015 MacBook Air

Hi! I have recently had my problems with the keyboard on my mac so my Dad has given me his old macbook air from 2015. It is newer than mine. When i try to sign in to my apple ID on his laptop it gets to the point at which it sends my phone a verification code, I type this in and then a loading sign comes up with the continue button blanked out and unable to press. I cannot get past this and I have tried restarting the computer.

Any suggestions? I am in the middle of my dissertation so any help would be really appreciated!!

To help troubleshoot this behavior, we recommend to restart your Mac in safe mode. This will help to verify your startup disk, attempt to repair any directory issues, and more. Here's a helpful article with additional details and the proper steps to take: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Once you're in safe mode, please restart your Mac as normal and see if you can set up your Apple ID account without any issues.
