Grey spinning circle; WiFi keeps cutting /blacking out on new iPad

I’ll be working happily, then I’ll open a page or do an action then the grey spinning circle comes up next to the WiFi symbol at top-right (the WiFi symbol is still there and it’s still connected when checking the WiFi status in Settings) - and nothing works for either 2-3mins or at all - apps or Safari/Chrome etc....

Then I have to tap the WiFi symbol in the drop-down menu to manually disconnect/reconnect - then everything works again (either for a few secs or a few hrs, it’s totally random).

It’s mainly on apps like Twitter / Instagram, but also happens on everything - YouTube, Chrome, shopping apps etc.

That said, there *may* be a correlation to when the app needs to search location- based info (happens when I search on Twitter for eg - I tap something or search then BAM, spinning circle and it freezes). See attached screenshot to see what I’ve already turned off in location settings.

It’s driving me crazy (and seems to happen regardless of what WiFi network I’m on, not just at home, also happens on my iPhone (but not my wife’s iPad/iPhone, both of which were my old devices) and does NOT happen when I’m on 4G /cellular — so I know it’s my devices only and something to do with WiFi.

If anyone has any solutions or experiences the same thing, then would love to hear from you!

Hi there Mrfox2000,

We understand you're experiencing an issue with the Wi-Fi internet not working although showing a connection on your iPad and iPhone, and we'd like to see if we can assist.

To begin, make sure your devices are up to date: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Also, head to Settings > Wi-Fi (not Control Center), toggle this off and back on, and see if the no internet issue persists.

Finally, restart both devices and test for the issue again.

If the issue persists, reset your network settings. To do this, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset your Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and any VPN and APN settings you've used before, so you'll want to make sure you have any passwords handy.

Thanks!

Hi Erica, if you’re the patient and kind lady I spoke to on the phone on May 12 - then thanks so much again! The issue seems to have come back (!!), still predominantly on the apps (vs on Safari / Chrome). The broadband supplier came round to fix a faulty cable which upped the speed from 18mbps to 70!!!

That’s helped a little but the grey spinning circle of death still comes up on apps like Facebook etc - and either take ages to load or they just sit there never loading up.

Still don’t know what settings to amend (have reset network settings etc). If any solutions crop up somewhere else, would LOVE to find out what the solution was! Thanks again ☺️
