Brand new AirPod Pros dying after 3 hours

I just got a pair of AirPod Pros yesterday, and since when they arrived one side was charged to around 80% but the other was at around 50%, I plugged the case into my MacBook Air (the case was around 70-80%, if I’m remembering correctly) with the buds inside so that all 3 units were charging. All of them got up to 100% pretty quickly. Today I wore them long enough to listen to almost exactly 3 hours of podcast episodes with Transparency turned on. I’m just wondering why they didn’t last nearly as long as Apple says they should and if anyone else has had the same problem (and, ideally, has been able to figure out a solution).

The battery life estimate is not a guarantee.

It states up to 4.5 hours.

Battery life testing is done under these conditions:

  1. Testing conducted by Apple in October 2019 using preproduction AirPods Pro with Wireless Charging Case and software paired with iPhone 11 Pro Max units and prerelease software. The playlist consisted of 358 unique audio tracks purchased from the iTunes Store (256-Kbps AAC encoding). Volume was set to 50% and Active Noise Cancellation was enabled. With Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency turned off, listening time was up to 5 hours. Testing consisted of full AirPods Pro battery discharge while playing audio until the first AirPod Pro stopped playback. Battery life depends on device settings, environment, usage, and many other factors.

Changing any of those factors, such as increasing the volume will shorten listening time.

If you are within the 14 day return period, you can try returning them and getting a new pair to see if it improves.
