Epson WF-2650 and Bonjour AirPrint

Has anyone else seen this? Recently, my Epson WF-2650 connected to my iMac running Big Sur 11.3.1 stopped printing using the Bonjour Multifunction connection. Two things have changed which may have caused this issue: there was an OS X update and I also updated my Xfinity router. The printer is connected to the new new router on the 2.4 network, but for whatever reason it is always OFFLINE when I try to use it or just look for it. I can setup IP printing and that works just fine from Mac, but, of course, I am unable to print from my mobile devices. The printer is in my list of devices on my Xfinity network. So, I don't think the problem is there, but I can't be 100% sure.

I have reset the printing system and unsuccessfully tried the add the printer as an AirPrint device. This is when I was able to add it as an IP printer. I tried reinstalling the printer, but that failed midway through the process.

I am more inclined to think it is related to the OS X update and not the new router. I am out of options at this point.

Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eli

AirPrint does not show the Epson WF-2650 as supported. The WF-2651 and WF-2660 are supported. Without that support, you are resigned to using the compatible Epson driver support for this device. And therein is the problem…

All of the Epson printer drivers and their scanner utility to date for this device were released in Oct 2020. That implies updates for Catalina, but not Big Sur. Implicitly, it excludes Epson testing their software against later Big Sur beta, or any released versions of macOS 11.x. That is a bogus leap of faith… The only driver they updated was the ICA (scanner driver for Apple Image Capture) in Jan 2021.

That was one one of the first things I tried (several times), and each time I tried it neither my device (Epson WF-2650) nor Bonjour Multifunction connection was listed.

Saying that, however, I wanted to go through the procedure again to get the exact process down and note exactly what was happening the screen so I could relate it here. This time, for whatever reason, my printer and the Kind (Bonjour Multifunction) showed up. I selected it and it added not only the printer function, but also the Fax feature to the Printers & Scanners list.

I'm hoping that after everything goes to sleep and then wakes up, it will still be online and usable.

Thanks for your help. I will respond again in several days with the status of the printer.
