I have deleted 200GB from my Documents folder, but my available space did not change.

I have and iMac. I deleted 200GB from my Documents folder (put in trash and emptied trash). The files appear to be gone, but my available space did not change. My question is why do I not have 200GB more available space?

Try restarting the computer and see what is shown.
