I have deleted 200GB from my Documents folder, but my available space did not change.

I have and iMac. I deleted 200GB from my Documents folder (put in trash and emptied trash). The files appear to be gone, but my available space did not change. My question is why do I not have 200GB more available space?

"Other" storage space on Mac I have 163.16 GB of "Other" storage space taken on my Mac and now only have a few MB free. It's has been causing me a lot of problems. I have removed most of my documents, put them on a hard drive and deleted them from the trash. I have no extra apps with the acceptation of some Microsoft products which have never caused me any problems and I have deleted all but my most recent phone backup. Does anyone know where I should go looking next to delete stored files that I don't use?

Macbook pro Big Sur and huge documents folder size. In the About this Mac storage page Documents are taking up about 426GB of space (1TB SSD) How can I find out what is actually in the documents space? Looking in finder Documents there only seems to be one folder and a sub folder with no contents in either. I only have about 40 gb of space left. All photos and videos which take up a lot of space are on the cloud.

Try restarting the computer and see what is shown.
