Home key exits Google Maps navigation and interupts Spotify when using CarPlay

iOS14.5.1, iPhone 8, 2018 KIA.

Just updated iOS. Using Spotify in car with CarPlay via USB, if I press the Home Key to switch apps, music pauses and car radio comes on for 3-4 seconds, then Spotify resumes.

Also, navigation in Google Maps is interrupted, and my destination will need to be re-entered!

It behaves almost as if the USB is disconnected or the Bluetooth kicks in. This did not happen prior to iOS14 and is quite frustrating. Have not found solution online.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We see you're having issues with CarPlay since updating the iOS on your iPhone 8, and we'd like to help.

After updating the iOS on your iPhone, did you also update any apps which have pending updates? Many app developers will release updates to their apps after an iOS update.

How to manually update apps on your Apple device

After all apps are updated, restart your iPhone, then test again: Restart your iPhone

If you're still having an issue, follow the steps in this article, including checking for a firmware update for your car stereo.
