imac 2021 buzzing noise

My iMac 24" 2021 is emitting a loud buzzing noise during use. Whether the device is being used for multiple browsing windows and writing simultaneously, or sitting on the desktop not being used after first being turned on.

When I say loud I mean noticeable. If I turn the audio up loud enough it drowns out the noise unless you put your ear down towards the screen. Only ever used MacBooks before and never noticed a noise before even while programming on a MacBook Pro. As I say it isn't noticeable if the audio is loud enough to drown it out but I plan to use this device for writing my novels so I won't have audio playing and that noise will be extremely distracting.

Is this common with iMac's ?

i'm not fortunate enough to have anything M1, but i'm pretty sure that with only flash storage in them it shouldn't be making any noise. my intel iMac 19,1 is 100% flash storage and it runs absolutely silent. i'm positive that you should be Contacting Apple for support and service. buzzing noises are very likely abnormal.

I also have the same question with the power cable.

I already took my iMac to 2 different Apple Stores, and they couldn't reproduce the issue there, so they didn't do anything about it. But then I realized they had used their own power adapters, and not the one that came with the Mac. It might have nothing to do with it, but I just wanted to test it myself... Only problem is, where the heck am I supposed to get a new one, when Apple themselves don't sell it (yet)? 😓

I just took my iMac to an Apple Store, and they could in fact replicate the sound when the display brightness was low, but stated it was "normal"... for this model at least. They hit me up with "Your product is ready for pickup", having done absolutely nothing to fix the issue.

Then I spent a couple of hours talking with apple support and the conclusion was: this is a known issue but we can't fix it... sorry.

The power adapter hypotheses seems interesting, but why should I be the one trying to find the solution to their defective product, that's the apple's technician's job!

They're all like this, there is no fix and there is no point in having it exchanged. To Apple this level of noise is considered normal. I would only consider it a problem if the noise is REALLY strong, I mean 30/40dB strong and audible with room noise at 1 meter distance. But if you just hear a faint buzz at night or in a quiet room then don't bother, they're all the same in this.

My 2021 iMac 24 makes the noise, depending on brightness level, and it makes concentrated work frustrating.

The only option is to plug my ears or listen to music.

I have asked Apple for help several times, but since it was after their so called 3 week "grace period" they refused to replace the unit, and repair is not an option, since the problem is not detected by the Apple test procedure.

So Apple considers this issue a non issue, it does not exist, and when I ask for help they act like they have never heard about it.

So I'm very surprised that several people on this board reports that they have had their unit replaced - is Apple support treating people differently depending on region?

Is a known issue in one region not a known issue in other regions?

Bottom line is: I'm stuck with an iMac that Apple refuse to fix, and that is difficult to use for concentrated work - is my only option really to sell my iMac?
