Airdrop not working with firewall on

For a long time the airdrop on my mac was only working when I turned off the firewall if I needed to use it.

I tried all the troubleshooting (turning bluetooth and wifi of the used devices off and on again, restarting the devices, unchecking the upper most checkbox on the further firewall options,...). Nothing seemed to help.

I found the same question on this forum but couldn't answer it, so I am posting the question again and giving myself the solution to it I guess (if anyone else struggles with this in the future).

If everything you tried in the usual/recommended troubleshooting did not work:

Go to the further firewall-options.

Go through the connections listed in the 'scroll-able' window there and find one named "sharingd".

If the firewall is blocking the connections there -> change it to accept them.

(Sorry for the not so tech sounding language. I am by all means no expert. But it worked so... good luck with your airdrop :) )
