Battery drain on iOS 14.6
my battery life on iOS 14.6 is terrible… is it just me or anyone is experiencing this thing too??
my battery life on iOS 14.6 is terrible… is it just me or anyone is experiencing this thing too??
So after putting up with this issue of the App Store using around 50% of my battery each day for nearly two weeks (and with activity levels at 100% every hour, with almost all of it in the background) I contacted apple support online chat. They suggested a few things that I had already tried and so we went to the full restore whilst the phone is plugged into a computer. So I reset my phone 11 via my Mac (following their instructions) and then I restored via iCloud backup .
I have now had ten hours of normal battery behaviour; usually by this point in the day my iPhone would be nearly dead. It is still on 56% 👍🏻👏🏻
So if anyone on here is struggling with battery life since iOS 14.6 was released and has tried a number of things but not yet tried the full restore plugged into a computer (which is better than an untethered restore according to the apple support chat representative) then I would urge you try it. Yes, it is a pain resetting the phone and waiting for it to restore from backup (and I now need to reconfigure my banking apps and wallet) - but I'm very happy that the problem seems to be resolved.
Cheers
I'm having the exact same issue with the podcasts app. Here's what I did:
1. Delete the podcast app.
2. Redownload.
3. Before opening the app go to settings and turn off auto downloads.
4. Go into the podcasts app now and go to the "shows" list in your library and mark all episodes of each show as played by long pressing the coverart and selecting the mark all as played option.
Keep in mind, this only helped slightly. Phone still runs pretty hot while playing episodes but it has been slightly better.
I have not deleted the apple podcasts app but have simply stopped using it and have been using an alternate podcast app (pocketcasts) and this has for now resolved the excessive battery drain. It is not ideal however as it means I cant use my carefully curated over the past many years apple podcast library. Surely apple can get this sorted as in my case the excessive battery drain is definitely being caused by the podcast app and it they cant get their own app to work on their own device what kind of company are they.
As I have mentioned previously my main reason in purchasing my iphone SE was to continue using my apple podcast library built up across previous iPod and iPod touches over the past 15 years.
I'm a developer and using Xcode tools I can see that a process called 'appstored' (a background daemon for the App Store) is constantly running at 50% CPU. Looking at the Console logs I see it is trying every 0.05 seconds to download "com.MonkeyTaps.Motivation.watchkitapp" (there's probably nothing wrong with that app, but that's what my phone is continually trying to download). I have deleted the app from my phone. Rebooted phone and watch. Restored my phone from a new backup (after deleting the app). But the App Store constantly wants to download this file.
Putting the phone into AirPlane mode seems to stop it, but that's not really a solution.
Putting the phone into low power mode doesn't stop it either.
i experienced battery drain in vain on both my iphone 7's. then i restored from ipsw with itunes and it resolved.
however. i did not installed all apps i had in my phone before and did not downloaded any of 200 songs in my music app. or any of my pdf's in books app. its literally an "empty" phone and i never use podcast app.
Battery is pretty good right now. browsing with safari did consumed 2% in a minute before but now %1 in maybe five minutes. never experienced overheating or battery loss when i was a sleep.
something definitely cause this problem but i dont know what it is yet.
I don’t use the Apple podcast app, I use Spotify so no direct experience with that issue
That being said I do have some other battery optimisation tricks you could try?
First always use WiFi over cellular where possible as it’s a shorter distance and less of a struggle to send and receive data so less power is consumed, having Bluetooth switched off does save power but not much these days as the technology is much more optimised than it used to be
Second and this might be the podcast app problem, turn off ‘background app refresh’ completely it will generally save you a lot of battery power especially if you have a lot of social media apps on your phone
This: "The only thing I've been told to go to https://www.apple.com/feedback/ and give them a feedback regarding latest update. So to all of you guys go to https://www.apple.com/feedback/ and tell them what your think otherwise they will not do anything! Nobody even checks our discussion here..."
Complaining here does little good if it's not accompanied by a real solution...which still seems out of our grasp. Apple does not read these forums (usually). EVERONE with this problem should register their problem there now. If you have a developer account, file a RADAR. https://www.apple.com/feedback/ | https://developer.apple.com/bug-reporting/
History: I had the battery drain problem early on (iPhone XR) (iPad Air unaffected.). It was the MUSIC app that was draining the battery; I do not have the Podcast app installed and turning "Find My" on or off made no difference. Did hard restart (several times), but did NOT do a reset/DFR. The problem disappeared after about 6 days. Battery health remains at 92%.
Hi,
Same problem here. Very light use of my phone and extreme battery drain
The only thing that help me was to disable Apple Podcast. I now use Overcast when I want to listen to a podcast. And even with this change I have to charge my phone once a day instead of once every 36 hours before 14.6. So I am hoping Apple will do the right thing and correct the battery drainage in the next iOS!
Good luck, hope this help !
Every since iOS14.6, I also faced this issue, caused by App Store, especially noticeable during the night: battery drain between 50% and 75% in 8hrs from a fully charged battery.
I've tried everything possible: unpair/pair Apple Watch 1, reset my phone Xs to factory setting and reinstall everything from a backup made last April (yes, I did loose quite some data in the process!!!), remove any app from the phone that was no longer supported in iOS14, disable 'Background App Refresh', etc.. but nothing worked. My only option to prevent this was to disable 4G and WiFi from my phone during the night.
But finally yesterday, iOS14.7 was released and this morning, although I kept my phone connected to internet through the night, I was happily surprised to see that my battery consumption was back to normal!!!!
What happened to Apple's high quality products??? I'm willing to continue paying the price but it has to be worth it!!!
I really hope this is the first and last time I have to go through that after an iOS update!!! Else I will have to seriously reconsider how I spend my money!!!
After updating to 14.7, the battery drain is not as bad. I am still seeing the App Store background activity at %50+. This is with the background refresh and auto-updates disabled. Not sure why this is still happening.
I switched to another podcast app and deleted the Apple podcast app and it seems to have worked to stop the drain. It’s a pain but worth it.
This seems to ease the issue a bit. With ‘find my network’ turned off, now I can get around 2 days of battery. Thanks for the tip ;)
Settings -> tap Apple ID -> tap Find my -> tap Find my iPhone -> turn off ‘find my network’
Like me! After updated to 14.7 yesterday, my IP X’s battery return normal and my phone no longer heat as before. Hope update version like 14.6 not repeat again.
I’m not sure but I think I found the fix to it.. it’s not exactly a fix but turns out my auto brightness was off.. i switched it on and till now it seems fine.. you also try and let me know if it has improved
I really think that time is the best solution. I’ve had bad battery with 14.5, and 14.5.1.
Also, everyone here try this. Open App Store, and click on your photo in the top right. Then once in the next menu, slowly drag down on your name and photo to force a refresh. Then. Press update all. That will update apps, which could have battery drain.
