Battery drain on iOS 14.6
my battery life on iOS 14.6 is terrible… is it just me or anyone is experiencing this thing too??
my battery life on iOS 14.6 is terrible… is it just me or anyone is experiencing this thing too??
So after putting up with this issue of the App Store using around 50% of my battery each day for nearly two weeks (and with activity levels at 100% every hour, with almost all of it in the background) I contacted apple support online chat. They suggested a few things that I had already tried and so we went to the full restore whilst the phone is plugged into a computer. So I reset my phone 11 via my Mac (following their instructions) and then I restored via iCloud backup .
I have now had ten hours of normal battery behaviour; usually by this point in the day my iPhone would be nearly dead. It is still on 56% 👍🏻👏🏻
So if anyone on here is struggling with battery life since iOS 14.6 was released and has tried a number of things but not yet tried the full restore plugged into a computer (which is better than an untethered restore according to the apple support chat representative) then I would urge you try it. Yes, it is a pain resetting the phone and waiting for it to restore from backup (and I now need to reconfigure my banking apps and wallet) - but I'm very happy that the problem seems to be resolved.
Cheers
How nice they deleting our comments now! I can't paste a link here "because it contained advertising".
Guys go to YTube and check "iOS 14.6 Final Battery Test video : Terrible results"...
The results are horrific!
I never post about this because this issue gets raised after ever single iOS release. But this time it hit me hard. My usage patterns are rock stable. I work from home and never go anywhere, especially since the pandemic. I rarely use my phone anymore except as an alarm clock. But I keep it near me at all times, and I keep it >50% charged at all times. Two days in a row now my phone has been powered off due to a drained battery when I pick it up. Battery health is good for a 7+ With a max capacity of 87%. I keep my screen very dim. It has never died like this.
I just read how often an OS update triggers a lot of background system activity while the system reorganizes, cleans up, and generally adapts to the new release, and that may be what is at play. If so, this behavior will stop within a few days. New features may consume more power, so that is something to monitor. But if it doesn’t go back to mostly the same power drain as before, then we will all know that this time there really is a problem. Time will tell.
I’m not having this issue, but people have said that the issues were often caused by podcasts and App Store. Has anyone tried deleting podcasts? (You can reinstall it if you’d like, but maybe that could help.)
Added follow up for my case: The battery drain issue continued, sometimes better, but then bad again. This morning I backed up to Mac, restored the iPhone, then restored the backup. I've been on battery now for 30 minutes and device is still at 100% with the Podcast app running (but not playing) and Evernote running, but the device idle otherwise. Before I would be down in the 80s by now---the drop being immediate and very dramatic before. Hopefully that problem is fixed and doesn't pick up again.
I just read in CNET :
” Battery drain bug fix
Several people have reported an issue with their iPhone battery draining quickly since updating to iOS 14.6. Apple has yet to address the issue, but it seems possible it could be fixed in iOS 14.7. “
I hope it’s true ! 14.7 should be available early July.
Have a nice day you too.
i just contacted apple support . i too face the same worse battery life.
i got a chat support. and i have a transcript. would that be useful to anyone? or anyone in my same case
all she told was a bug on any unupdated apps.
The app Podcast is definitely draining the battery. I go to bed with 100 % battery, listen to 1 hour of downloaded podcast and my battery is at 57 % this morning. It can’t be anything else my Wifi and Bluetooth are off !
During the day if I listen to a podcast the phone becomes very hot and then battery loses 20 to 30% for a 30 minute podcast. For me Podcast is the culprit. So I don’t listen to podcast anymore. It’s not a solution but what can I do?
I read that 14.7 is coming early July and it MIGHT resolve the issue. I wonder how Apple can resolve an issue when they aren’t acknowledge a problem?
Will see…
After update, Amazon music running in background using 50% of battery
Here are some resources that may help.
Turn off find my network from icloud -> find -> find iphone
Restore process
Windows: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/itunes/itnsdb1fe305/windows
mac: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201252
make sure you have a backup before doing this.
Is ‘find my network’ switched off as well?
Did you try this;
Settings -> tap Apple ID -> tap Find my -> tap Find my iPhone -> turn off ‘find my network’
Update: I deleted the podcast app, did a soft reset, and then reinstalled the app earlier today. It seems to have made a big difference in battery use, unless the reason for battery drain was something else. Will know better in the morning. The confusing thing for me is battery usage by app in settings for the podcast app is still high, but the trajectory of battery charge is not near as steep as earlier (and on top of it, I have Evernote sync'ing notes).
Yep - it’s a horror show. I think it is related to the appalling new podcast app (outside of the battery draining it is a shocking downgrade - whoever is their product boss should be fired) If you go to battery health you will see background activity just kills the battery - still does even though I have turned it off.
