Separate windows when composing mail messages

When composing emails in Big Sur a new email is opened in a tab in the same window. is there any way to revert to the previous way of composing emails - ie each in it's own window?

Thanks

Hi ohgolly,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand when you're composing a new email it showing it in split screen view. It sounds like you may be in full screen mode. This article explains more about this feature and how to disable it:

Take care.

Thanks for the response, but that's not what I am after.

What I would like to know is how to compose more than one email, with each having it's own window, rather than in a new tab in the same window. I realise I can click on the tab and request to open the message in its own window, but I would like that to be the default, rather than a special request? It used to be, before Big Sur.
