Macbook gets very hot during startup and fan makes loud noise

Can I trade in my 2020 Intel Macbook Air for the new M1 macbook Air (comes out at the same price), there is no damage. The loud fan noises disturb me while studying, legs are also burned from hot bottom.

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

One possible reason, for the issue you are seeing, is that one or more of the apps or processes during startup is causing a significant amount of CPU processing. Thus raising the temperature and running your notebook's fans at full speed.

I suggest that you start by taking a look at any startup items that you, or an app, has configured on your notebook. To simply do so, go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > Select your user account > Login Items tab

The image below is from my 2010 MacBook Pro, which does run a number of things at startup. I would expect that you will get very different results.

To temporarily disable any that you have, hold down the shift key after you enter your user account password, but before pressing the return key. If this resolves the issue, then you know that it could be one of these items that may be causing the problem.

If you purchased the 2020 Intel MacBook Air within the last 14 days, then you can get a full refund. You can then apply this refund to the purchase of a new M1 model.

If it is past that date, it is too early to try using Apple's Trade-in program and you will be better off by trying to sell it outright. By the time it can use that program, it will come at a significant reduction in value.

... and for latter case, you may want to do a bit of troubleshooting to find out why it is having these issues. You never know, it could very well be solvable and no need to replace it.

Thanks for the reply, I am a student. I have bought this Macbook last year in a rush because I needed it for video calls and video editing. I wanted to sell it but I don't now if anyone wants to buy an intel Core i7 version of the MacBook Air because it is pretty rare. I think the overheating is normal because the i5 option is also running pretty hot because the fan isn't connected to the heat sink. I bought it when it launched, there were no reviews about it at the time. The MacBook Pro (1300$) was just over my budget of 1000$ and the MacBook Air i7 was 999$, so I bought the air. Bad decision ):
