FCPX - Freeze frame creates a still from a different video clip

I'm having a problem that has absolutely stumped me. Every time I create a freeze frame in FCPX, no matter the clip, the frozen frame winds up being from a different video clip. I'll delete the frame and try again, only to get a frame from yet another clip. I can't seem to get a frozen frame from the clip that I'm freezing. I'm on the most recent version of FCPX, editing on an M1 MacBook Air. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

That's definitely odd. So to confirm, you're moving the playhead in the timeline or the browser over the clip you want to create a freeze frame from, then choosing Edit->Add Freeze Frame or pressing option-F? https://support.apple.com/guide/final-cut-pro/create-freeze-frames-verc6b56b42/mac

Does this happen in all libraries or just this one? You might try deleting the application preferences by holding option + command when launching FCP. Also delete generated library files by selecting the library in the browser, then File->Delete Generated Library Files...->Render Files->All.

I’m running Big Sur 11.3.1 on a 13” MacBook Pro M1 16gb 1tb with Final Cut Pro 10.5.2.

I believe I have solved the issue. My clients footage was shot at 29.97p and my timeline was 24p. Not sure why that would matter especially when the effected clips were still images using a Ken burns, but I created a new project using 29.97p and pasted my other timeline in it. No issues once the frame rate was matched.

A few thoughts:

a) exporting a frame is still very much possible. May you just have to add a “destination” in Preferences->Destinations

b) I am not seeing the issue with freeze frames being different from what was under the playhead. What version of FCP and macOS?

c) As a workaround, you may try to select a range of just the frame you want (press I and O) then Shift-F to reveal in browser and then add that to the timeline.

Do you have Chrome on this machine?

I’m having the same issue. It started recently and is happening in all libraries. In my case, I am attempting to freeze frame the last frame of a still image that also has a Ken burns effect. I was exporting the frame as a still to my desktop and then inserting it at the end of the clip but I no longer see the “share current frame” option. So I tried freeze frame and it is inserting previously frozen frames instead of the frame my play head is stopped on. As a work around I tried shift+H but because it’s a still image with a ken burns effect, it won’t let me.
