Remove songs from playlist but not library

On iPhone 12, IOS 14.6, got Apple Music subscription last month and since then have not been able to remove songs from my playlists without deleting them from my library and having to re-add and re-download them. There is no option I can find to simply remove from the playlist.

Such a garbage problem. Have no idea how to get these songs back now or which ones I even deleted. Do these people even use their own app? Seriously, things like "play last" instead of an add to queue, now this crap? What a joke, I might just to switch back to spotify at this point

This is the dumbest thing in the world. Switched from Spotify. I'm deleting songs from a PLAYLIST and I later find out that they are also being deleted from my LIBRARY??

What the heck?? How is this not resolved?

So am I supposed to never add anything to a playlist that's also in my Library? And if so, I just can't ever delete it without having to re-add those tracks to my Library?

Ever since Apple Music arrived with the monthly subscription, I believe they are doing everything they can to make the user experience with non-Apple Music songs a frustrating one. Even purchasing a song first requires me to decline an Apple Music offer asking me to sign up for 3 months. In fact, I have no idea how to buy music anymore so I don't. I would support the artist, but I can't figure out how to buy a song anymore. It's crazy that the purchase song button is gone. Everytime I click on the song in the Apple music store the Apple Music offer comes up. I then close it and I'm back at the music page. I can't buy the song.

Ok I thought this would be changed by now. I have over 10,000 songs and playlists that I update all the time. I love Apple Music but this will make me switch to Spotify. I have a feeling I’m not the only one getting really tired of this.

Can’t believe I actually have to write this out. It’s a no brainer, someone made a very annoying mistake.

🥰!!!APPLE PLEASE WAKE UP THANKS!!!🥰

I had the same problem and I had been changing things around in my playlists without realising I was completely deleting songs. I have no way of getting them back but I have worked out how to at least fix it.

Just pressing the 3 dots doesn’t work neither does holding the folder down. I created a Profile and just didn’t make it public and it gave me back the option to remove from just the playlist and the option to send playlists to people as mine was missing. (I also got the latest software update which I don’t know if that has anything to do with it)

Hope this helps :)

This is the most ridiculous cut in features. You CAN NOT remove a song from a play list. They cut that feature. Probably so that you would subscribe monthly and get trapped into yet another monthly payment, apples attempt to suck even more money and punish those who invested in their products. I am learning to hate my huge investment in apple products.

I have the latest version of iOS, 15.1.1 and still do not have a "remove from playlist" or "edit" option available from any of the menus in my library which is sad because those are basic CRUD operations. The entire purpose of a playlist is to customize your songs and albums yet I'm not able to do that in 2021 (almost 2022) on an iPhone 12 plus that is more than a grand.

Whenever I download an album from apple music or sync my Shazam to apple music, the downloaded content is added to my albums and to my playlist. Why would they default add EVERYTHING to your playlist folder? Anyhow, I learned the painful lesson that removing an album actually deletes it from the library on my phone. At this stage in the technology game I should be able to perform all functions I need on my device, not have to deal with iTunes or whatever on my laptop especially with cloud capabilities.

I leave everything as is because Apple is so restrictive with customizations. I appreciate that iOS is not open source which means we have superior security to competitors but they need to redesign and understand the basic use cases.

I am in total agreement. I have the same problem. I am replying not because I have a solution but because I want to give your discussion merit. Apple is just being lazy about fixing this problem that so many people have complained about. So I will never subscribe to Apple Music. Everyone in my family has gone to Spotify. It is a shame to put such an investment in Apple and not have a basic function from the so called tech geniuses.

When I witness this, what appear to be shenanigans, rather than common sense, I become cynical. Could it be that Apple is deterring users from removing songs "just" the playlist because it means the songs get played more often? In other words, eliminating obviously needed conveniences for the user must have a more sinister reason, right? I accidentally put the wrong song in a playlist, now I can't remove it unless I remove it altogether? I smell a scam or they would fix it tomorrow. How much do we all pay Apple again?

Keep the faith!

The whole Apple Music app is mind boggling to me. There is nothing intuitive in it for editing playlists. I must have accidentally moved one "song" out of order on a classical album sometime and I can't even figure out how to fix that. So I just left it. There is probably a greater chance of JS Bach manifesting on my IPhone and correcting it, than Apple.
