Forgot my Mac HD - Data drive password

Every time I turn on my MacBook I am getting a notification to enter the password for my Macintosh HD - Data drive. It doesn't seem to be accepting my normal login password and I have no idea what it could be. Anyone else experienced this?

Good afternoon Ingridamelia,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like you are being prompted for a password to access your data on your MacBook Air.

When did you start receiving these prompts? Have you recently updated the macOS on your computer?

Please be sure to have a Time Machine backup in place before troubleshooting issues with data. You may need to erase and reinstall the macOS, but before that, try resetting your user admin password, and repairing the internal hard drive with Disk Utility.
