D6000 Mac Book Pro Compatibility

Hi guys , I have a concern about using the Dell 6000 Docking Station along with my Mac Book Pro 16 Intel Core i7 2.6GHz, that is because the included charger runs at 96W(2166) Output 20.5V , 4.7A, but the Power Delivery from D6000 is Up to 65W Dell/Non-Dell laptop (5V/9V/15V@3A and 19.5V@3.25A) as is documented in Dell Universal Dock - D6000 | Dell USA. , Are problems with that or I can use the Dell D6000 without worries ?

All comments are appreciated.

It’s my understanding that the MBP will select one “charging” source so you don’t have any safety concerns.

I’m not sure how it goes about “choosing” but I suspect it would prioritizes it’s high-output Apple power supply over the power avail from the Dell dock.

That said, 65W is a LOT of power.

For comparison, I routinely operate my own 16” MBP on an 18W Apple charger. (Not a typo … eighteen)

The battery SoC slowly climbs in low-demand periods, and slowly drops in high demand periods.

FYI, the actual charger is INSIDE your Mac.

What we commonly call a “charger” is really a DC power supply. They are fairly smart devices today and “negotiate” a voltage to best meet the needs power needs demanded by the laptop - as possibly limited by the interconnecting cable.
