Failed iMovie 10.2.3 download

I am running a MacBook Air with Big Sur 11.4 installed. My previous version of iMovie no longer works and I need to download version iMovie 10.2.3 which will not download. From the App store I get to iMovie and click on 'Get' and the circle just keeps rotating...for an hour but the program never downloads. I have tried on four occasions with the same result...the circle just rotates. I cannot go to the Apple store in Melbourne, Australia because we are again in Covid lockdown. What can I do to effect a download and a functioning program? Thanks for any help.

Try this procedure. To update/redownload iMovie 10, drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the trash. Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar. You will see your purchases displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update iMovie from there. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash and return it to the Applications folder.

Dear Rich,

Today I tried Apple support with an online chat. Jose suggested I create a second persona on my MacAir as though I was a second person using the same computer and that I then try logging onto the App store as this new user. I did all of this. I logged onto the App store using the same user name and password as I used for logging on with my original persona, and lo and behold, I was recognised in the App Store with my name at the bottom of the left hand side bar. The iMovie picture instead of having GET had an iCloud symbol and I was able to download iMovie 10.2.3 which is accessible when I log on with my original persona. I can only presume there is some glitch with my logging on with my original persona. Interestingly I can log on the the App store correctly with the same user name and password on my iPad.

Thank you for all your suggestions and help.

Sincerely,

Campbell
