iPhone 12 Pro - Voice breaking up on calls

New phone purchased Mar 2021.

Issue:  When using my phone in our home, the person I am speaking with reports that my voice is breaking up and garbled to the point where they cannot hear me at all.  I can hear them fine with no issue at my end.   Doesn’t happen all the time but more often than not.  This was never an issue with my iPhone SE which is still in use in our home.    Happens using Wifi or data (strong signal).

Action so far...

     Settings >> Cellular >> Wi-Fi Calling >> turned on

Settings >> Cellular >> Cellular Data Options >> Voice & Data >> LTE (4th Generation)

Performed Apple Software update to 14.6.

Hardware checked and good (Apple in-store support)

Reinstall of Apple software (Apple in-store support)

Apple Support today suggested a phone replacement at a cost of $99 + tax. Not interested in spending more $, especially not knowing if that will fix the issue.

Have had to call people back on Zoom to have decent conversations which seems crazy after upgrading to the iPhone 12 Pro.

Thanks for your response.

My issue is not with calls dropping, it's the person at the other end who says my voice is breaking up or they can't hear me at all. I can hear them just fine. It's intermittent, maybe 5 minutes of the call is fine, and then my voice breaks up for the other person. Sometimes it corrects itself and other times the person just hangs up because they can't carry a conversation with me anymore.

I just turned off Phone Noise Cancellation to see if that might help.

I had the same problem after upgrading to iPhone 12. After trying everything reco I could find that seemed reasonable online, I upgraded to iOS 15 ( don’t know if that really helped anything ) and called Verizon who recommended I “reset my settings”. Heads up, reset will remove all personalized settings. So, you’ll have to reset your permissions, backgrounds and more. It looks like that might have fixed it. Fingers crossed.

I just got the new iPhone 13 pro and the same thing is happening to me. I’ve made multiple calls and every single person has told me that my voice breaks up and they can only hear every other word I’m saying. When my sister got the IPhone 12 and would call me on my XR at the time i would tell her the same thing that her voice was breaking up. I don’t know what it is but it seems like an Apple issue. All I know is I didn’t pay 1,100$ for people not to be able to hear me when I call them. It’s super annoying.

I have Verizon my husband also has an old iPhone with Verizon he has no problems with his calls . Sounds like Apple has a bunch of lemons. Makes me want to give up on Apple. I seriously feel like I’m in that commercial where the lady shows up with a turkey leg and medieval attire. It’s gotten so bad that nearly every call is a guessing game of content. I’ve probably got several orders of Omaha steaks and encyclopedias on the way. Thanks Apple. Glad I’m paying a ton of money each month for a phone and service that is for the most part useless.

I MAY have found a solution to voice breaking up on iPhone.

I backup my iPhone to the Cloud, then did a Factory Reset, then brought my content down from the Cloud. I found directions on how to do this on the web . . . some site that I've now forgotten. Google "Factory Reset iPhone." Or you can go to a Genius Bar for them to do it for you.

I did this Factory Reset 2 weeks ago. So far no voice break ups, and I've asked the people I called.

I'm on an iPhone 7, WiFi connection through Xfinity, phone line carrier AT&T.

Good luck to all of us!

I got my iPhone 13 Pro on November 1st. From the beginning had and still have the same problem: I can hear the person on the other end perfectly, but at their end the call brakes up constantly and can’t understand me. Have to spend 10 minutes on a call that normally shouldn’t take more the a couple minutes. Spent hours chatting with Apple tech (her last instruction was to reset my phone!!??, which I refused. Spent over 2 hours at Best Buy (Apple accredited) where they tested everything and I was told that the phone is just fine, Verizon is the problem. Today I spent almost 3 hours with a Verizon tech who was asking me to do a million different things (many options not even available to me, most likely he was reading/copying from instructions for a older iOS). At the end he said that the problem is the phone and just left the chat. Anyway, the effect of his instructions, after completed, had the same effect like a massage on a wooden leg. Never had this problem with my iPhone 8. So frustrating and Apple either ignores it, or doesn’t have a solution for the problem.

I am having the same issue with a brand new iPhone 13 Pro. My carrier Visible has been troubleshooting, but nothing they have don has helped. I had a chat with apple today and they said there’s nothing wrong with the device. I’ve worked for Verizon for 20 years and I know it’s not the network. I am convinced I got a lemon phone, which is rare, but can happen. I have an appointment at apple tomorrow, but have little faith that my issue will be resolved. I should have saved my $1,400.

Same here. Brand new iPhone 13 Pro. Everything works as it should, except the phone calls, which is the main function of a phone (at least for me). I perfectly hear everyone calling, but they have a hard time understanding me, or can’t understand at all due to breakups. Chat with Apple useless. Set up twice phone calls, they never called. Spent 2 hours at Best Buy (Apple certified). Phone was tested and deemed good. Several changes were tried to setup with no success. Spent hours with Verizon. Everything on their side tested out OK.

Suggestions on what could be done to have apple recognize that it’s their issue?

I have the same issue iPhone 4 and 7 both bought from apple AT&T Verizon network. Can do FaceTime call no problem. Hear other people just fine but voice breakup on other end intermittently. Bought newer phone and even switched carriers because I thought it was a coverage problem. Seems weird that I can use the 7 for a hotspot but can’t get heard on a voice call. Tried all the settings stuff to no avail. Other cheaper phones on the same network work just fine. Maybe time to go Android after 4 years of frustration

I have recently upgraded to 13 pro from XR and facing the same issue that other person could not hear me properly.

Based on the analysis I have observed that this issue happens if there is any disturbance on other person's side. For testing purpose I have asked other person to mute and hear me then there is no issue. Other person can clearly hear what I am talking when muted.

And this is happening to all iPhones after iPhone 11 pro.

Not sure if Apple is aware of this issue.
