we weren’t able to verify your address

i was trying to open a shared note but it keeps asking to add my number to my account although it’s already connected to my account. when i do try to add it again, it tells me that my address can’t be verified?

iPhone 11, iOS 14

Hello bleueggsnham,


It sounds like you are trying to access a shared note but it's not accepting your contact informaiton.


Here are some resources that can help:



  • Check your Apple ID information directly from Manage your Apple ID or in Settings on your device and not from the Note.


If your Apple ID information is correct, make sure you know who the note is coming from.

Hi there,

i have the same issue and would be glad if someone from apple can resolve this swiftly. I have been receiving notes from my husband and last week, i have been getting prompt that my address can’t be verified. What address ? It seems Apple ios has been on the decline and it is one issue or the other. This is frustrating. I am using an Ipone xs max and have the most recent update.

I have the solution!! :D went to Apple support and they guided me through it with ease!

(1)make sure your software and notes is fully updated

(2)make sure notes is turned on in iCloud settings

(3)make sure you DONT have a VPN enabled in your settings (setting<general<VPN)

(4)sign out of iCloud in settings

(5)sign back in

(6)reset network settings (settings<general<reset<reset network settings)

(7)try to open the notes again!

A frustrating issue. Solved it when:

  1. Shared the note with my wife
  2. Opened the note from iMessage on her phone
  3. Request verification from Apple
  4. Opened the link that I got in Safari
  5. Logged in with her Apple ID
  6. Followed all steps and verified her phone number
  7. Went back to iMessage and tried to retrieve the note again - this time it added it to Notes
  8. If it is not working from the first time try (7) again

I have everything updated. As does the people i am trying to share with. We are also both signed in as well. We are still experiencing the same issue. Myself and 12 of my coworkers are trying to use separate folders for different parts of the business and its not working for anyone.

I think everyone facing this issue in India, and we are not getting support from Apple.

I am trying to share this, my team, some technical documents to help them to work, but It's difficult to share from others app for us to follow different applications.


Please help to fix this issue.

I just followed your helpful walkthrough and it worked! Thanks so much. After signing back in I got a weird pop up screen saying my iMessage and iCloud accounts don’t match. But I continued to reset the network settings. And clicked on the shared note and it opened!

I wish your comment was the one on top of this post as it’s actually helpful. I was at work trying to access a shared not my coworker sent me and it wasn’t working. This thread was the one I came to. I didn’t have time to look at everyone’s replies so I read the first one that wasn’t helpful in the slightest. Wasn’t until I got home and could actually have time to look up my problem more thoroughly I decided to come back here and found your reply further down. Yours needs to be on top. Thank you for posting your fix
