Hi nas8419119 and thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

We would be happy to help assist you with this. First, have you been able to try connecting your iPhone to your MacBook using another cable? Also, do you know if your Mac is able to recognize your iPhone while in other applications? If not, we recommend taking a look and working through the steps in the article below to check if your Mac is reading the connection to your iPhone.

If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

We'd also make sure to check that your Mac is completely up to date with the most compatible software for your device. Depending on what macOS your computer is running, it's possible that it may not be the most compatible with the software on your iPhone. The following article will walk you through how to check for available updates and start that process on your Mac.

How to update the software on your Mac

We hope this helps.
