Spaces between phone numbers in contacts

Why do my contacts keep putting spaces between every two digits in all my contacts I’ve turned off roaming and tried a few fixes off YouTube to no avail. Some times when I switch off the phone leave it a few minutes turn it back on it’s ok but not always. I have a iPhone 10max fully updated, this has been going on for a couple of years and the apple shop has been no help.

Thanks for that info, postmanrtr!

At this point, we have a couple of things we'd like to test. The first will be to log in on the iCloud website and see if the issue persists there. That will give us a better idea of what's going on.

If the contacts look correct, let's go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud and scroll down to Contacts. Toggle that off and tell it to delete the contacts from the device. Once you've done that, restart the iPhone then toggle it back on. This will force the iPhone to download a new copy of the contacts.

Let us know what happens from there.

Cheers.

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, postmanrtr!

We see that you're having some trouble with spacing in the numbers for your contacts. We'll be happy to see how we can help.

Let's start by going to Settings > General > Language & Region. Once there, change your region, wait a couple of minutes, then change it back. Once done, go and see if the issue continues.

If it does, we have some questions to better understand the issue.

•Does the issue continue if you create a new contact?

•Are you still able to call and message your contacts?

•Is it happening with all contacts, or only specific ones?

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Cheers.

Thanks for getting back to me I got my iPhone 10 when they came out and moved my contacts across from my iPhone 6+ before I moved them across there wasn’t any problems at all, it started a few months later I’m sure it started after a update?

I have tried changing regions and turning off roaming also a few other tips off YouTube none have worked.

But to answer your questions,

Yes it does the same on a new contact

I can still call out, not tried to msg

It happens with all my contacts if anyone calls me it’s a unknown number

Thanks for the help

The issue is within SIM application settings where default roaming setup is wrong and causing numbers to use wrong region; something that your carrier support and should know how to solve it.

If you search for it, you can find a very lengthy thread on Virginmedia Community portal about this issue with details how to solve it.

For the record, my comment wasn’t about Data Roaming settings under Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options.

Your carrier might offer SIM Applications options and if available, those might appear in Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data (right above SIM PIN menu). If not there, your Carrier most likely will use short codes (those starting with # that you call or txt) to change some of those settings (e.g. to enable/disable some plan features like voicemail).

Contact your carrier and tell them that your SIM default roaming region settings are set to wrong region causing issues such as calling numbers saved without international prefix number. Ask them to change it for you to your region (or to set to ‘off’ or ‘auto/automatically’).
