My Macbook Pro shutdown from overheating

My Macbook pro was running quite hot. Had a zoom call for an hour while screensharing. On top of that had a lot of open apps etc. I never got a message that something was wrong. All of a sudden it shut itself down. Now I have the charging sign pop-up when trying to boot it up again. Its plugged-in, the cable is intact and worked everyday so far. However, its not showing me that its charging or anything.
