My iphone dcim folder structure has changed

For several years the folder structure when connecting iPhone to PC has been

like “100APPLE,” “101APPLE, and so on. And so it was for me a few weeks ago.

Today It suddenly was changed to 2021__06, 2021__05 and so on. Folders sorted by year and month on the iPhone.

When did this change happen and why? I can not find anything about it on the Internet? Also on the PC information is missing on all photos like format of camera, iso and so on.

Apple, I rally hate you right now. Clearly you accidently un-handicapped this, and reverted it back to prevent Windows users from finally having an easy experience accessing DCIM contents... Honestly, its BS like this that makes Android look more and more appealing

It’s not helping that Apple kept changing its folder structure. It’s making my regular backup tedious, I end up backing up all folders in a separate folder, instead of just adding to the old folders on my PC/EHD. But I could not delete the old files because the latest DCIM folders are not complete because I already deleted photos from my phone to save space. And now, while it is back to the year_month structure (which I hate), the folders kept renaming themselves (with additional letters and files transferring from one folder to another) when I had to reconnect the phone because somehow, Apple keeps crashing when I try to copy photos to my Windows PC (which has been that way for some years now). Seriously, just stick to one structure or at least give us the option to select which to use as default. And please fix your compatibility with Windows so that the connection doesn’t crash mid-backup.
