iMac email sometimes so slow sending!

Hi, when I reply to an email on my Apple mail and hit the send button it freezes with spinning wheel for about 5 minutes before the email goes. After this happening 5 times or so it will start working normally. But then after about 5 normal emails it starts freezing like that again. Torturous!

If I use my Apple mail on another profile on the same computer it works OK. I did a factory restart and it seemed to work OK but then I brought everything back from TM it started again.

Any help would be hugely appreciated - thanks!

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13

I see there has been a mail app hang 4x in the past several days. I also so there is VERY little RAM left. So something is eating all your RAM, my guess is that may be causing the hangs. Please open Activity Monitor and see what is using up all of your RAM and concentrate on that.

Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used

First please try restarting in Safe Mode and then restart normally and re-test. If the problem persists please let us know.

Please restore the Mail app from your Time Machine backup, restore it from a time that Mail was working okay. For example, if the problem began June 10th, please restore from anytime on June 9th.

RAM is looking OK now. But the Mail app is using around 100% CPU - sometimes it goes down to around 1% and I can send emails, then it's back to around 100% again...

Thanks for the quick answer. I've tried this and no luck. I've spent a good few hours on Apple live chat trying to work this out so I've been through all the tests like this. Like I say we ended up with a factory reset and still not working...
