Lossless Apple music on PC

Will paying users be able to listen to Apple music in lossless quality on their computer? Because if there is no such option, it is discrimination for those who do not have an Apple device, yet you can pay for your Apple music service without it.

Windows, Windows 10

Thanks to the rollout of Apple Music Lossless on Android, you can now listen to Apple Music Lossless through an android emulator like Bluestacks or Android Studio.

It works well but I don't know if this is going to support Dolby Atmos in the future tho but for now this is a good backup while we wait for Apple to hopefully add Apple Music Lossless and Spatial Audio support on iTunes or maybe release a new Apple Music app for Windows.

Spatial Audio and Lossless audio is propriety to specific devices and headphones used. Only a few devices and headphones can take advantage of it and all are owned by Apple. Just because you have MAC or iPhone does not mean you will have access to them either.

I think what everyone wants lossless music that is not tied to a specific platform. Apple is known to tie software and hardware together. Time will tell I guess.

Depends on how you're going to listen - from browser almost sure it will not be lossless (most probably AAC 16bit/44.1KHz (?)). From iTunes you have the option to adjust bit depth / sampling frequency according to the audio settings of your audio card.

I do have an external DAC - which I configure at 24bit/48Khz as majority of Apple library is not even that hi-res, in order to avoid oversampling - and set iTunes to same config. But not 100% sure iTunes "receives" at hi-res - as it doesn't give any info about the file being played. Hope this helps.

nwtobin, that's a completely different thing! That preferences option refers to the audio device on the PC that plays back the audio to your speakers. It doesn't have anything to do with the audio format coming to you via Apple Music. On PC, all Apple Music tracks are still always LOSSY (ABR 256 kbps AAC).

Like I said, the settings in the preferences are for the software audio device that plays back the audio. That is basically always set to CD or DVD settings. Notice I said "settings" and not "quality"! That's because everything you listen to on your PC is converted to PCM/WAV just before it is played back through your speakers. Even when you listen to your MP3s in your MP3 player on Windows, the audio is converted by the player to WAV and then sent to your speakers. That doesn't mean your speakers play lossless audio. They can't, since you're playing MP3s. What comes INTO the player is important. If that's lossless then output will also be genuinely lossless. If what's coming in is lossy (as is the case with Apple Music on PC) then what comes out will also be lossy!
