I use the second generation fire stick and it is utterly frustrating that the Apple TV app is below par.
When I leave it for a few moments and the screens saver appears, my progress on any episode is lost and I have to start from the beginning.
It's such a basic feature for any streaming app.

When you are watching something, you should be able to watch again where you left off. You can find more information about this under the 'Continue watching, find movies and TV shows, and add channels in the Watch Now tab' section of Watch movies, TV shows, and live content in the Apple TV app
Do you have this issue if you use the Apple TV app on other devices? If not, it could be the Fire TV Stick itself. You can contact Amazon for further troubleshooting steps.

It works fine on Apple TV app on the iPad.
All other streaming apps work perfectly on Amazon Fire Stick. It is just the apple tv app that doesn't resume where I left off.
Others have reported the same issue in a discussion forum with the same question as mine.
It seems to be a bug with the apple tv app.
