BIG SUR BRICKED MY MACBOOK PRO

OK here is how it happened.

I upgraded my MBP to Big Sur a while ago. Then one day i was cleaning my keyboard when it was OFF, then it turned on by itself (obviously i pressed on the power button along with other combinations of keys when i cleaned it) it went to firmware password screen directly. Yes, I have a firmware passcode set for it and i have 2 other laptops and I DO KNOW WHAT MY FIRMWARE PASSWORD IS. Even though i entered my password correctly it doesnt accept it.

Once again, i know what my password is because i use it on my two other laptops. Somehow firwmare password is corrupted. This laptop was given to me as a gift from my previous employer which i cannot get a hold of.

So, is my macbook pro which is late 2011 is TRASH NOW?

dwb has a good point. And you can always override the internal keyboard entry with an external USB keyboard.

If possible, get to the username field and test the case of the typed character.

You can also see if the recovery mode, command-R works, and that will bring up in the menu the Terminal and see if you are typing all uppercase, or not. That will verify the case.

OK i just checked it by using my serial and my MBP is MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014). I mixed it up with my macbook air. Also, apple warns you if the device is not upgradable. Anyway, going back to the real problem, since you are being too smart about it, i am sure you have an answer for this "failure" of the company?
