AirDrop, not working AGAIN?

16 inch MacBook Pro, running latest OS, updated yesterday; iPhone XR also running latest iOS, updated last week. Trying to move files off from MacBook Pro and nothing appears in the airdrop window. Can move files on to MacBook Pro from other devices. C'mon apple why does airdrop keep failing after each update?

Have searched previous airdrop forums, tried all of the fixes already, none of the existing fixes/workarounds are working for me.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 11.4

FIXED - when I updated my laptop it signed me out of iCloud. This made it un-discoverable to my devices that were signed in.

To resolve the issue I can sign the device back in to iCloud (which I don't use anyway), OR

change the AirDrop settings of all my devices to: Allow me to be discovered by: Everyone, instead of Contacts Only
