Follow the IMAP instructions on AOL's website.

https://help.aol.com/articles/how-do-i-use-other-email-applications-to-send-and-receive-my-aol-mail

After that, you can manage the mailboxes in AOL directly with Mac OS X Mail with a simple drag and drop of messages.
