Seveal seconds Bluetooth lag EVERY time until I switch outputs and back

My speakers are Bluetooth, not connected to my TV (I use a projector, not a TV). EVERY time I use my AppleTV I have to switch away from my Bluetooth speakers and back again, or else there is a LONG audio delay. It’s like you have to connect to the speaker twice every time: once automatically on wake, then again manually. THEN audio is fine. Of course, I always forget this is needed and expect my AppleTV to “just work”—and so I end up interrupting EVERY movie people are watching, so I can perform the workaround and get the voices in synch.

Is there any way to make Bluetooth audio reliable without constantly jumping through these hoops? This is the latest AppleTV 4k, with the latest tvOS (14.6). Grace Digital speakers, which never have this problem with other devices I connect to my same projector.

TIA!

Hello ZMorgan Adams1,

We are sorry to hear that you are having audio issues with your Apple TV.

Have you restarted your Apple TV since having this issue? Restarting the Apple TV helps refresh the device and its connections. Here is How to turn off or restart your Apple TV

You can also calibrate the audio between the Apple TV and your speakers. Calibrating the audio allows you to make sure there is not a delay between the Apple TV and your speakers. You can calibrate the audio by following the steps under the 'Calibrate audio between your wired and wireless speakers' section of Use Apple TV to play audio throughout your home

Have a great day!

Hello again Morgan Adams1,

Thank you for the information!

In the resource, the HDMI connection refers to the connection to the TV. In your case, it would be the projector. Is the Apple TV connected to your projector via HDMI?

Is there a specific app you are using to watch the movies when this happens? Does it happen in other apps as well?

Does this happen with other content, such as music, or games?

Have you tried using different speakers? Does it happen with other speakers?

Do you happen to know if your speakers have software that needs to be updated?

Is your Apple TV connected via ethernet? If it is, remove the ethernet cable, and try while on Wi-Fi.
