iPod classic isn't recognized by iTunes

I've tried everything I can think of but nothing has worked so far. It was connecting about a week ago but has not been able to since. I've tried using disk mode, restarting it, using different cords, and nothing has worked. Does anyone know what else I can try?

Windows or Mac? Despite the lack of active support for iPod classic it should still work with the latest versions of iTunes (or Music on Catalina/Big Sur). A full tear down and reinstall of iTunes should fix software issues. As well as trying alternate cables it is also worth checking the docking port for fluff.

See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows Update - Apple Community for tear down/reinstallation advice. Install the current version. An older build won't work with your current library. Anything older than 12.7.2.58/12.6.5.3 will have issues connecting to the store.

Apple no longer supports iPod Classics or any other iPods except for the iPod Touch. You'll need to search for ways to uninstall you're current iTunes version and roll back to 9.2.1 according to what I've been able to find. At the moment, I am stuck at the install part of the process due to this recurring error message "Service 'iPod Service' (iPod Service) failed to start." I'me really disappointed with Apple at the moment and am researching alternatives to iTunes/Music/"Whatever else they choose to shove down our throats".
