Hello Gorstmonk,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, the backlight on your Magic Keyboard isn't working for your iPad Air. We'll do our best to assist.

Try to remove and reconnect the Magic Keyboard from the iPad.

Restart your iPad

Make sure you've also considered: If you can't connect your iPad to your Magic Keyboard, Smart Keyboard, or Smart Keyboard Folio

Should the issue persist, you'd want to bring the Magic Keyboard and iPad Air into a local service center for an inspection. They would be able to identify if this is a hardware issue.

Get your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch ready for service

To locate a service center, select your region and search nearby using this link: Find Locations

Due to the current conditions around the world, some stores may have limited hours or appointment times. They also may require specific things to visit them (Such as, wearing a mask, calling to check-in, etc.).

Hoping this helps out, take care!
