Only able to print email headers in MacMail

Since I have upgraded to the M1 Chip and with each update to Big Sur I have a new challenge. Currently one of two things happen when I try to print email - and the result is the same regardless if I use a keyboard shortcut, the print icon, file>print, or export to pdf...

Either I get only the email header, or in rare instances I get the email header on a page by itself and the balance of the email prints on a 2nd page. I can't find any pattern or explanation as to why one vs the other happens.

I have been using the same printer for sometime, and this just started. I have rebooted my computer. I have restarted Mac Mail, I have uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it. I have uninstalled the printer, rebooted the computer and then reinstalled it. None of the above have solved the problem. At this point it appears my only option to print email is to take a screen shot of the open email - which is not only inefficient but not always a functional option.

I would appreciate any solutions.

If you're still having problems with Mail try the following: boot into Safe Mode according to Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to nearly twice as long as a normal boot as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Hi msvincedis, thanks for posting here in Apple Support Communities. We understand that you've been experiencing issues printing emails from your new Mac computer. By any chance, have you already checked the advanced print settings? If not, let's see if adjusting some of those settings helps: Choose advanced print settings on Mac - Apple Support

Another option would be to save emails as files or PDFs and then print them out from there: Save emails as files or PDFs in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

We hope that helps.

Cheers!

msvincedis.

Thanks for keeping us posted. Just so that we're on the same page, are you referring to the print settings under the "Show Details" section of the print dialog?

In addition to that, would you be okay with testing this issue in another user account? A new user would be best: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

Please keep us posted on the results.

I unfortunately have already tried this. And this issue just happened - likely post a Big Sur update,. I have not changed my software or hardware, and I could print fine before. I also can print the same email from my iPhone mail app via air print to the same printer without difficulty. I am printing from my MAC via wifi to the HP Printer.

The link you provide shows a photo with a setting that doesn't exist. My drop down options are: Media & Quality, Layout, Paper Handling, Cover Page, Watermark -- and then Supplies. There aren't any unusual options selected, but honestly there aren't any complex options really available. I can choose the paper size, pages printed on each sheet, scaling (which I have toggled on and off all combinations of the various scale options).

On the bright side, I am back to this being on again off again, and I can print all emails correctly from my iPhone mail app - just a problem from my actual Mac. Same printer.
