Audio delay issues with 14.5 and 14.6.

I have a home theater and recently added to my system so I can hear Atmos content. I also purchased an Apple TV 4K 2nd Gen 2 weeks ago. I stuck to physical media strictly until recently when I purchased it.

Whenever I play any Atmos content with Atmos turned on, there is delay in the sound. If I turn off Atmos and force the ATV to encode in DD 5.1, the delay goes away. This happens on BOTH ATV's in my house. My son said this was not an issue until updating to 14.6 on his older one.

Yes, both ATV's are updated to 14.6 - per Apple's suggestion.

Yes, both have been factory reset, at least twice - per Apple's suggestion.

I have experimented with a multitude of settings (matching frames.. etc.. etc.. ) trying to get this to go away. My solution short term is to delay the sound in the center channel by about 90ms. Not even close to an optimal solution, or even a solution at all.

Judging by what I see as I type this, this is a widespread issue, clearly an Apple problem. The issue is, the support people don't even recognize the issue.

Is there a fix for this?

I experience this issue as well when I connect my Apple TV to a Sony HT-ST5000 soundbar, which is connected to a Sony A80J television.

I found two different solutions:

1) Connect the ATV directly to the television and pass the sound from the television to the soundbar via eARC. Of course this will work only if your TV has available HDMI inputs and will pass the Atmos signal on to your receiver.

2) Disable frame rate matching on the ATV. This can cause problems with some content such as European programming, but will probably not be a problem for content that has Dolby Vision or Atmos.
