Macbook Pro 15" 2019 trackpad is lagging

My issue is simple to explain but probably quite costly to fix as I don't have Apple Care.

When I move my finger across my trackpad quickly or drag a window or highlight menu options up and down quickly, the mouse lags. It's a very, very noticeable lag and it's driving me nuts.

It's most noticeable when I click and drag on a window and move it around quickly. It's practically a half-second delay between my finger input and the window moving across the screen.

As of now, I've plugged in a mouse and with the mouse there's no problem - the cursor moves as expected.

But as soon as I go back to the trackpad, same issue.

Is there possible anything I can do personally about this? Or will I inevitably have to bring my MacBook in for service at the Apple store?

Also, for what it's worth, I am on macOS Monterey but I don't think that's why.
