Application Won't Delete

I'm having the same problem as described here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8643225

Basically I have an 11GB application (it's Cuphead, and its file Kind is "APPS_OTHER) that won't delete, and says it's never been opened. I hit delete and nothing happens, if I try to open containing folder, nothing happens.

This is my new Macbook Pro '13 running Big Sur, I just imported my data from my old MBP and now having this issue.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.2

It might be a false reading. You could reindex the drive for Spotlight according to this Apple document, How to rebuild the Spotlight index on your Mac - Apple Support, and then recheck the size again.

Boot into Safe Mode according to Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and try deleting the app from there.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to nearly twice as long as a normal boot as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

I see, sorry, I was recently burned by a scam and am feeling very cautious. I saw the review of FAF on Macworld and am reassured. I couldn't find the Steam folder in /Library/Applications, but did download Omni Disc Sweeper and found this with its search function:

I noticed that Omni didn't find the 11 GB application file, could it be that my Storage Management tool is simply faulty and seeing a file that doesn't exist?

I just tried this, but in Safe Mode I can't access the MBP's "Storage Management" tool that allows me to see this 11GB file. I can't find the file in Finder, when I search "Cuphead" in my disk nothing comes up, and hitting "Open Containing Folder" does nothing when I'm in the Storage Management tool. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Post a screenshot of the window in which you see the 11 GB app.

Can you find the app on the hard drive? That's why I suggested to boot into Safe Mode so you can try dragging the app to the Trash bin and delete it. If you can't find it but know it's name then, while in Safe Mode, download and run the shareware app Find Any File to search for any files with the application's name in the file name.  For XXXX software you'd do the following search(es):

1 - Name contains XXXX

Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop or Trash bin in the Dock for deletion.

FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.

If you can't find the app try using either GrandPerspective  or OmniDiscSweeper to search for large files and find where they are stored.
