Can't Import Images and Error -9934 —Crash Report Attached

Why is my 2014 iMac suddenly refusing to import or even see photos from my iPhone. In addition Photos starts and crashes over and over. And what can I do to fix it?

The computer is giving me this error message: com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9934

I would normally delete and reinstall Photos for Mac but that is not an option.

What can I do? There are a bunch of fantastic photos trapped on my iPhone.

Hi

Very often this sort of problem happens when the library has been moved to external storage with an incompatible format. Where is your library stored? In your pictures folder? Or somewhere else?

If it is still in your pictures folder, then please try the following:

1 - Create a new empty library and try with that library open (hold down the option key while starting photos, and click "create new". To switch back to your currently library afterwards, do the option key start again)

2 - Try booting in safe mode - does it still happen?

3 - Try creating a new user (admin) account and try when logged into that account.

These checks will tell us if the problem is system wide, or linked to a particular library or user account.

I also notice from your crash report that you have system integrity protection turned off.

This is not a good thing. It is designed to protect your system from malicious software.

The fact that it is off makes me wonder if you have some problems with malware. I would download and run a scan with malwarebytes.

It may also be worth running etrecheck, and pasting the report to the Mac section of these forums (there is more likely to be someone there who can interpret the etrecheck report)

So your library is in your pictures folder?

Why on earth would video editing need you to turn off system integrity protection? If it was needed to install some app, then I would be fairly certain that app came with a payload of malware.

If it fails in safe mode, and with a new account, and with a new library, then the problem is system wide. I'd be looking at malware again using reputable scanner apps, and perhaps re-installing macos.
